Stay Motivated Without any Urgency
There are 2 kinds of people- one who works a small amount every day and complete the task and others who start working just two days before the deadline.
No matter what people say, ultimately, both of them get their job done.
When the person has a sense of urgency for completing a given task, it is seen that he is more focused and more motivated in getting the thing done.
Urgency is the prime causal factor of the feeling of motivation. So, when we don’t have a set deadline for a job (mostly our long-term goals), we feel less motivated in working on the task.
So, the best way to stay productive when there is no urgency is to create a sense of urgency. This can be done by:-
Answer the Why:
Whenever you feel like procrastinating, ask yourself – “Do I really love doing this? Why did I start doing this in the first place?” When you remind yourself the reasons of doing the job, you become aware of the importance of the task. It becomes your personal goal; a goal that you want to achieve.
Create your own deadlines:
Some tasks are sweet poisons. Which comes with an unlimited amount of time for their completion. They don’t really motivate you. So, you should set your own time frame on such tasks.
Moreover, you can divide the tasks into smaller chunks and set borderlines for the attainment of each piece. This way, you stay more motivated because you start feeling that the clock is ticking and you can’t afford to waste your time.
Track your negative habits:
Make a list of all the things on which you waste your time when you need to be concentrating on the work at hand. It can be anything- watching movies, social media, playing video games, sleeping or overthinking.
This will help you become more aware of yourself. The next time you’ll do something like this, your unconscious self will automatically remind you of this. The fewer distractions you face, the more productive you are.
It’s a competition:
Think of it in this way- there are almost fifty other people doing the same thing as you. Even if have a lot of time still in your pocket, but there are still others who are using that time more productively than you.
Every second that you waste, you go a step behind someone who happens to utilize that moment. So, unless you want to end up like the hare who slept and lost to the tortoise, wake up and win your race.
Give yourself a treat or deprive yourself of the joy of watching your favourite TV show. Give positive reinforcements where necessary and use negative reinforcements as a way of tricking yourself into doing a task.
- These things limiting your true potential
- Question to ask yourself frequently
- Students stay motivated
When we have something to lose or something to gain after doing a job, we become more diligent. Use this to your own advantage.
Success comes to those who persevere. People who achieve something in life persevere on a daily basis. This includes days when they do not feel like doing anything. They persevere nonetheless. You should too.
